The travel itineraries are well and truly in the bin for Fremantle’s first to fourth year players as they returned to the club for the commencement of pre-season training on Monday.

After a spate of hot days, Perth’s weather decided to give the boys some respite with a cloudy, 28-degree day.

New faces among the training group were Colin Sylvia and Scott Gumbleton, who the club picked up from Melbourne and Essendon respectively in the off-season.

The pair were sharp in executing the array of running drills set up by Freo sports science manager Jason Weber, obviously calling on their AFL experience.

Irishman Sean Hurley, who is at the club on a two-week trial, wasn’t taking any chances with Australia’s sun.

The pale-skinned Gaelic footballer from Kildare was sporting a fair amount of sunscreen and zinc.

Also on the permission-to-train list was Peel Thunder player and former Carlton defender Paul Bower.

Although now in their fifth years at the club, Michael Barlow and Anthony Morabito also joined the Monday session.

Morabito looked strong and performed all the running drills without any obvious discomfort from his thrice-operated left knee.

Another fifth-year player, Clancee Pearce, was also on the track. He has been working hard to recover from the Achilles injury that ruled him out of the finals.
The rest of the playing squad will return to training over the course of the next month.
