Gold Coast champion Gary Ablett believes his side has the game plan to beat Fremantle at Metricon Stadium this Saturday night.

The Suns have won two of their five games in their third season of existence.

They led late in last year’s match between the sides before Freo steadied for a seven-point win.

Ablett, who missed that game, said Freo presented a “great opportunity” for his side to gain another win on Saturday.

“Fremantle have been in great form but you know we played well against them last year and we feel we have got the game plan to beat them, we have just got to make sure we stick to our structures and play the way we want to play on the day,” he said on goldcoastfc.com.au.

But the Brownlow Medallist was still full of praise for Freo, particularly under its new regime.

He said they had become a more defensive side under senior coach Ross Lyon and would present a great challenge.

“I think they are number one in the AFL for tackling and their pressure acts as well, tackling, making the opposition turn the ball over and things like that,” Ablett said.

“We have got to make sure we do the little things well, get the basics right and in offence hit our targets and not turn the ball over.”
