Fremantle’s NAB Cup opener against Richmond on Sunday night saw nearly $20,000 raised for the Victorian Bushfire Relief Fund.
The generosity of Fremantle and Richmond fans who ventured to Subiaco Oval to watch the match saw a combined total of $19,623.10 collected by NAB staff, WA Fire and Rescue servicemen and Red Cross volunteers at Subiaco Oval.
All funds raised on the night by NAB and WA Fire and Rescue staff will be handed across to Red Cross to be used to assist communities affected by the devastating Victorian bushfires get back on their feet.
Steve Joske, CSC, Executive Director of Red Cross in WA, said Red Cross had been inspired by how much money was raised for the Victorian Bushfire Appeal on Sunday night.
“It just goes to show that AFL supporters, and especially the Fremantle fans on Sunday night, really dig deep when it’s needed the most, and on behalf of all the people affected by the bushfires, we’d like to thank everyone who donated at the game for their extraordinary generosity,” Joske said.
Fremantle chief executive officer Steve Rosich praised the club’s supporters for digging deep for the bushfire victims.
“There were 14,517 people at the game on Sunday night so to have nearly $20,000 donated by Fremantle and Richmond fans is a fantastic result,” Rosich said.
“While the game has now come and gone, we continue to encourage members and supporters of not just our club but those across the AFL to donate to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund by ringing 1800 811 700 or by visiting redcross.org.au,” he said.
