Mackay returns after a one-week absence with a toe complaint.
Tippett hasn’t played since sustaining a concussion - his third of the season - in Adelaide’s round 17 win over West Coast. He needs one final clearance from the Club’s medical staff on Friday before he can take his place in the selected side. But coach Brenton Sanderson said he was confident the star goalkicker would be fit to play.
“Kurt will do his final medical clearance tomorrow with our doctor. If our doctor clears him, then it’s up to Kurt,” Sanderson told afc.com.au.
“Kurt is really confident. He’s been training really well and isn’t showing any ill effects anymore, so it looks like he’ll play. And David Mackay trained well yesterday (Wednesday). His toe isn’t causing him any grief at all.”
Porplyzia (shoulder bruising) was substituted at half-time of Adelaide’s win over Essendon last weekend. The Crows were optimistic the skilful forward would recover in time to face Freo, but Sanderson said the Club decided not to take any unnecessary risks.
Richard Tambling, who started as the substitute in his first game of the season against the Bombers, is the other player to be left out of the side.
