Fremantle and West Coast today had their joint initiative to hold a NAB Challenge Derby to aid the Victorian Bush Fire Appeal approved by the AFL.

The funds raised from the game at Subiaco Oval on Saturday 7 March will go towards assisting sporting clubs affected by the Victorian Bushfires.

AFL Chief Operating Officer Gillon McLachlan said he wanted to thank the Fremantle and West Coast clubs and the WAFC, who had driven the idea of a pre-season derby to support sporting clubs affected by the recent bushfires.

"The football community has been looking to do all it can to help and this match will be a further step in our work through the year," Mr McLachlan said.

Fremantle CEO Steve Rosich said both clubs were united in their support of the game.

“We were delighted to work proactively with the AFL on this initiative,” Rosich said.

“As a follow on from the $19,623 raised at Fremantle’s NAB Cup fixture at Subiaco Oval against Richmond, it is another great opportunity for Fremantle supporters and the WA football community in general to support this very worthwhile cause.”

Patrons can use public transport at no charge upon presentation of their match ticket three hours prior to and after the game on Transperth services.

Transperth has agreed to waive its usual charges to allow for increased funds to be raised for the Victorian Bushfire Appeal. Ticketmaster will also make a contribution from its usual match-day fees towards the appeal.

Tickets to this match will be sold on a reserve seat basis and must be purchased to reserve a seat. Reserved 2009 AFL Premiership Season seats do not apply to this match.

There will be a membership priority sales period that will run from 9am Wednesday 25 February through until midday Thursday 26 February. The priority sales period will be shared by members of Fremantle and West Coast. Members of both clubs have access to seats prior to ticket sales being opened to the general public.
