He has been nominated in the ruck position alongside just one other player, Oscar Allen of West Coast.

20-year-olds Andrew Brayshaw and Adam Cerra are both vying for the honour for the first time after outstanding seasons in their third year of AFL football.

Serong, 19, is in the running to earn a spot in the team in just his first year of AFL football after shining in his debut season.

Brayshaw, Cerra and Serong are among 16 players to be nominated in the midfield, alongside Andrew McGrath, Bailey Smith, Hugh McCluggage, Harry Perryman, James Rowbottom, James Worpel, Jarrod Berry, Jy Simpkin, Noah Anderson, Sam Walsh, Shai Bolton, Tim Taranto and Zac Bailey.

Cerra has also been nominated on the wing, alongside McCluggage, Perryman, Walsh, Bailey and Josh Daicos.
