The Fremantle Dockers confirmed four changes to their playing list on Friday.

Brandon Matera, Hugh Dixon, Tom North and Jarvis Pina were informed that they would not be offered contracts for the 2021 season.

Matera arrived at Fremantle via trade from the Gold Coast following the 2017 season, where he played 101 games between 2011 to 2017.

The forward played 43 games and kicked 46 goals for Fremantle between 2018 and 2020, including five games and three goals in 2020.

Selected in the 2017 National Draft, Dixon departs Fremantle after playing one game in his three seasons, kicking a goal in his debut in round 23 against Port Adelaide in 2019.

North was also drafted by Fremantle in 2017, however the inside midfielder was unable to break into the starting 22 during his three seasons at the club.

Pina was selected by Fremantle in the 2019 Rookie Draft from Peel Thunder but the rebounding defender did not earn selection in 2020.

Dixon, North and Pina were all on Fremantle’s rookie list in 2020.

General manager of football Peter Bell thanked the players for the contribution they had made to the club.

“This is always a really difficult time of year and made more difficult this year because of the list cuts of which we don’t have exact clarity. Clearly, we have to plan for the future and with that in mind, there were some really tough conversations,” Bell said.

“Brandon Matera was informed that there wouldn’t be a contract for him next year. Brandon has been at the club for three years and he’s been a valued team member and we wish him well for the future.

“Hugh Dixon has been at the club for three years. Hugh played our last game in 2019 and performed well. Hugh’s got a lot of talent but unfortunately, we had to inform him also that there wouldn’t be a spot on the list for 2021.

“Tom’s been with the club for three years. He made enormous inroads this year, he was an emergency on a number of occasions but unfortunately, couldn’t break through for an AFL game. He’s a really diligent player and professional. He leaves with all of our support and best wishes for the future as well.”

“Jarvis was a rookie list selection last year, he’s had an enormous impact on the group with his energy and his enthusiasm. He was a really popular teammate and was popular with staff members also. He’s very young and, hopefully, he gets another opportunity at the elite level.”

Fremantle have now made eight changes to their 2020 playing list, with Cam McCarthy, Jason Carter, Dillon O’Reilly and Isaiah Butters released from their training requirements prior to the end of the 2020 season.

Bell said the club was waiting for clarity from the AFL before making any more decisions relating to list cuts.

“There are still some uncontracted players at the club and we’re just waiting on exact list sizes to come through from the AFL,” Bell said.

“We don’t have a timeline on that but clearly, it’s a period of much anxiety for the players concerned and also the rest of the club without this certainty.”
