Fremantle captain Nat Fyfe will be a star of the game no matter where he plays in the 2021 season, according to fellow leader Reece Conca.

As Freo’s young and talented midfield develops, Fyfe is expected to spend more time forward and use his elite contested marking to impact the game.

Fyfe’s potential was on show in a recent match sim where he took a towering pack mark and kicked five goals.

“‘Fyfey’ is a one of a kind player. You can play him in the midfield or forward and he’d still make a really huge impact on the game,” Conca said.

“I think it’s just an absolute bonus for us that we can push him forward and he can be dangerous.

“There’s no limit on what he can do up there, the amount of goals he can kick and how he contributes to the team.”

While no spot is safe in Fremantle’s deep backline with the likes of Alex Pearce, Joel Hamling, Griffin Logue and Hayden Young returning from injury, Conca is working on continuing his role as a shutdown defender on the opposition’s best small forwards.

“I’ll probably play on more of those dangerous forwards again as the deepest defender and I’m just trying to do my best for the team,” Conca said.

“It’s one of my strengths and I’m probably a bit more defensively minded as a player and quite adaptable.

“Obviously I just want to play my role for the team and that’s what ‘JL’ (Justin Longmuir) and ‘Boydy’ (assistant coach Matthew Boyd) really want from me.

“That and a bit of leadership and communicating in that backline, which is really important as well.”
