Senior coach Justin Longmuir is confident midfielder Stephen Hill will reignite his AFL career in 2021 as he looks to return from a complicated hamstring injury.

Hill has battled soft tissue injuries in recent seasons and is yet to play a game at any level in 2021.

The Freo legend is out of contract at the end of this season but Longmuir said Hill was ‘absolutely not’ considering early retirement, rubbishing suggestions that the 30-year-old may retire early to allow Fremantle to have a selection in the mid-season draft.

“We feel like we’re on the right track. He’s had a really slow three-week build to be able to reach the period he’s at now and now we’ll be able to ramp it up a little bit quicker,” Longmuir said.

“He’s got about six weeks ahead of him of work on the track to be able to get himself ready for matches and we’re really confident if we can keep ticking off the boxes he’ll play some footy for us this year.”
