As a family man, David Mundy understands the sacrifices made when going on the road throughout his 340-game career.

When Fremantle were told they were heading to the Gold Coast for a two-game ‘mini hub’ last week, Mundy knew it would mean missing his son’s birthday as well as Mothers’ Day.

In the latest episode of Old Bull, Young Buck, the star midfielder said it felt jarring when he saw his teammates eyes light up at the news Fremantle were returning to the Gold Coast.

He called out guest Travis Colyer on the matter.

“When we were told we were going to Gold Coast, Trav’s eyes absolutely lit up!” Mundy said.

“You were saying ‘back to the Gold Coast, you know what that means boys…OG Burritos!’”

Due to the restrictions AFL players were living under in 2020, going out and getting takeaway for lunch was one of the few things they could do.

During last year’s hub on the Gold Coast, Colyer said he had recruited a number of teammates to go to this one particular hole in the wall burrito shop.

“Andy Brayshaw and Caleb Serong in particular, I kind of just stoked the fire a little bit for them,” Colyer said.

“Caleb is really interesting, food is like religion to him. It’s like his mood is dependent on the food. If you watch him, it could be coffee or anything.

“On the way there, he rings up and asks for 10 OG Burritos. There was Jimma (James Aish), Stef (Giro) and big ‘Swaggy’ (Sean Darcy). It was probably one each for us and ‘Swaggy’ had the rest!

“They got a bit flustered, it was an hour and a bit wait. We went and got a coffee and went back.

“(The excitement for burritos) was a little bit of not really being able to go out and do too much. That was the one thing the boys had found in that little place.”
