Rory Lobb is confident Josh Treacy can fill the void if fellow forward Matt Taberner misses Sunday’s clash against Port Adelaide with an ankle injury.

Taberner came off in the third term of Fremantle's win against Sydney on Saturday and will face a fitness test before any potential selection against the Power.

With Taberner off the ground, Treacy stepped up to kick his first AFL goal in style from outside 50 at a crucial point late in the game.

Lobb said the Treacy is a long term project at Fremantle, adding that the 18-year-old had some exciting traits.

“We can’t forget that he’s only 18 years old. He’s a built kid. He would have played growing up being bigger than the other boys and he just has to get used to playing against the big-bodied AFL backmen,” Lobb told 6PR.

“He’s a very skilled player, he’s got a nice set of hands. I think with ‘Tabs’ going out (of the game against Sydney), (Treacy) can really get some confidence from that game.

“He went back to Peel and kicked a few goals and got himself back into the team and hopefully the week he can kick a few more.”

Lobb said he was looking forward to a potential match up against Port Adelaide defender Aliir Aliir.

Both Lobb and Aliir played on each other number of times when Lobb was at GWS and Aliir at Sydney.

"I’ve played on Allir Allir a fair bit, especially when he was at Sydney and we were both playing in the NEAFL," Lobb said.

"We know each other’s games pretty well so that would be a pretty good match up if he comes to me.

"They’re very hard to win against at Adelaide Oval. We won at Adelaide Oval against Adelaide and we really like that ground.

"Hopefully, we can put up a good fight this week."
