Midfielder Brett Bewley delivered late for Fremantle, kicking two clutch goals against Collingwood to seal the 12-point victory at Marvel Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The 26-year-old was a late inclusion to the Fremantle line-up, named to replace skipper Nat Fyfe just an hour before the bounce.

Bewley also collected 17 disposals, seven score involvements, four intercepts and three marks.

The Pies clash marked Bewley’s second game of the season following a 16-disposal performance against Gold Coast before the bye.

Bewley said he tried to take his opportunity as he slotted two of Freo’s final three goals of the game.

ALL THE HIGHLIGHTS

“It was good to get on the end of a couple and make them count,” Bewley said.

“I kind of just worked my way down and tried to get into a good spot if Mitch (Crowden) needed to feed it back and it came to me.

“I didn’t really think about it too much, I smacked it on the left and it went through.

“I don’t think I’ve ever taken a mark inside 50 in the AFL so it was good to get that monkey off the back!

“I just wanted to make sure I took my opportunity and made sure it counted.”

Bewley said Freo’s small forward brigade including Lachie Schultz and Mitch Crowden should be commended for their impact at the contest.

Schultz finished with 13 disposals, seven marks and three goals while Crowden, who was activated as Freo’s medical sub in the second quarter, had seven disposals and kicked a goal.

“They compete hard all day, sometimes they don’t get the rewards they deserve in terms of on the scoreboard,” Bewley said.

“The pressure they bring and the way they play their roles and their shape around the stoppages are second to none.”

Bewley also praised young Freo forwards Liam Henry and Josh Treacy and was excited by their emergence in recent weeks.

“We are really starting to see that talent come through, (Liam’s) confidence is building every week,” Bewley said.

“He is a really neat finisher around goals…it’s really nice to see him progress.

“Big cyclone Treacy is really nice up forward, he’s got the best dukes I’ve ever seen I reckon!

“He’s going to be pretty exciting for us.”
