Fremantle have confirmed Travis Colyer will play on for at least one more year with the 30-year-old signing on for the 2022 season.

Colyer’s third season at Fremantle after joining the Club from Essendon was one of his best, playing every game of the home and away season for the first time and kicking 15 goals.

As well as a career-high goal tally, Colyer ranked first at Fremantle for goal assists and second for tackles inside 50.

The speedy forward said he was excited to continue to be a part of Fremantle’s growth.

“The evolution of the squad that we’ve seen is really exciting to see. I think this year we took some really good steps forward,” Colyer said.

“To be able to contribute personally was something that I am really proud of, particularly after not having the years I would have wanted, performance wise, in my first two years at the Club. To now be able to perform and be a part of this group is really exciting.”

The 128-game player was Fremantle’s second most experienced player for the final two games of the season behind David Mundy, and he credited his younger teammates for helping him enjoy his football more than ever.

“The enthusiasm of the guys, particularly within the forward line, is really pushing me and hopefully, I can bring them along as well,” Colyer said.

“Ultimately, it's made me realise why I love footy – seeing the younger guys coming through now in the early stage of their career. It’s made me reflect on what that was like for me. Hopefully, I can help this time be as enjoyable for them as it was for me.”

Executive general manager of football Peter Bell said Colyer had been a vital contributor to Fremantle in 2021.

“Travis has thoroughly deserved his one-year contract extension after his impressive 2021 season,” Bell said.

“As well as being able to give us continuity in our selection by being fit and available all year, Travis has also been one of our most consistent performers on game day.

“He is a deep thinker of the game and an intelligent footballer, and what the fans may not see is how willing he is to share his knowledge and experience with our young forward line, and we look forward to that continuing in 2022.”
