Fremantle captain Nat Fyfe remains a chance to be fully recovered from his second round of shoulder surgery by the start of the season, according to senior coach Justin Longmuir.

Fyfe is undertaking antibiotic treatment as a part of his recovery process, which prevented him from training during the initial weeks following the surgery.

“He’s tracking well. He’s progressing now and been able to start sweating after the infection got in there and we seem to be on top of that,” Longmuir told AFL.com.au.

“He’s back to work, back to building his fitness. It’s going to be a bit of a long, slow process in some ways.”

Fyfe could resume full training by mid-February, according to Longmuir, which would leave Fyfe around four weeks to build his match fitness.

“It’s disappointing, but we expect him to be right and back into training by mid-February, if not late February and expect him to be right to go by the start of the season,” Longmuir said.

“All is not lost, he’s got a pretty good bank of work under his belt so we expect him to come up to the mark pretty quick. I’m looking forward to him being ready for the start of the season.”
