The board, players and staff of the Fremantle Football Club would like to express their sadness at the passing of foundation board member, Syd Corser.

A leading home builder, champion yachtsman and philanthropist, Corser was honoured with Life Membership in 2017 for his long-serving commitment to Fremantle, which started before the club’s establishment in 1994.

Corser was appointed to the board in 1994, where he served until 2003 – playing a major role in the fundraising for the club’s original headquarters at Fremantle Oval.

The co-founder of WA home builder Pacesetter Homes, Corser, who was the 1992 WA Citizen of the Year (sport), was also honoured with an Order of Australia for helping to establish Australia’s first urological research centre and for his contribution to the Ngala Family Resource Centre. He also received and Order of the British Empire for his services to housing.

Fremantle president Dale Alcock said Corser and wife Danae were proud and passionate about their long-standing commitment to the Fremantle Dockers.

“Syd Corser was a founding father of the Fremantle Football Club and contributed much to its establishment,” Alcock said.

“He and Danae have been lifelong Fremantle supporters and Syd leaves us a great legacy.

“Nothing was too big or too small for Syd to tackle. A key decision maker and driving force from the outset, Syd was also a major fundraiser for our original headquarters at Fremantle Oval.

“Then in later years, Syd and Danae would visit Fremantle Oval on a regular basis to tend the small garden and creeper near the entry to the building, or to drop off a basket of fruit from their own garden at home to senior coach Ross Lyon.

“I have known Syd personally for many years and he leaves a huge mark on the property development and housing industries in Western Australia.

“A champion yachtsman, champion of industry, a champion philanthropist and servant of our community. His is indeed was a life well lived.

“On behalf of everyone at Fremantle, we extend our deepest sympathies to Danae and the Corser family.”

The Fremantle players will wear black armbands as a mark of respect in today’s game against St Kilda at Optus Stadium.
