Fremantle skipper Hayley Miller is ready to launch into the second half of the season after her side defeated Carlton by 42 points on Saturday at Fremantle Oval.

After a slow start against Carlton, who kicked the first goal of the game, Fremantle were able to pile on seven goals as Miller was instrumental in the middle with a season-high 24 disposals and six tackles.

Miller is excited by the upcoming bye and believes it will be a great reset for the team before they take on the unbeaten Adelaide Crows in round eight.

“We have a bye next week, which is going to be great to freshen up and then roll into a couple of tough games towards the end of the season but we’re in a good spot,” Miller said.

ALL THE HIGHLIGHTS

Since taking on the captaincy, Miller has averaged 21 disposals a game and without Kiara Bowers alongside her in the middle against the Blues, she continues to set the standard for the playing group.

“I just hoped my season would be good this year with the work I have put in the off-season but I am so proud of these girls and I just want to show them and the standard that we set at Freo,” Miller said.

“If I can do that and bring some girls along with me, then I am doing the right thing.”

Although the team played their first home game at Fremantle Oval since round one, the players still remain in quarantine until Sunday night.

Miller was pleased the girls were able to deliver in front of the Purple Army despite playing their sixth game in 28 days.

“Most of us aren’t actually at home yet, we are still in quarantine in Airbnb’s across the state,” Miller said.

“So, for the girls to come out today and perform like that is really impressive.

“We had the exemptions to train but that was the only time we had outside, so there was a lot of walks up and down the driveway and kicking the footy in the backyard.”
