Andy Brayshaw knows how important Saturday’s three-point win over Geelong is to the Club, and said he had ‘backed in’ his teammates to get the job done.

Fremantle now hold a 6-1 record to start the season, and will head into their Friday night clash with North Melbourne next weekend with the hope of adding another win to their growing tally.

Brayshaw led the way for Freo in the engine room yet again, with 28 disposals, 21 pressure acts, five inside 50s, four tackles and 512 metres gained.

The young leader said his teammates could feel the support of the small contingent of Fremantle supporters in the GMBHA stands throughout the contest.

“It’s huge for the Club, we’ve got about 100 supporters here verse the rest of the crowd and they came out,” Brayshaw said.

“They were super loud, and we did it for them and everyone else back home.”

Brayshaw believed the group took confidence out of Freo’s one-point nail-biter win over Adelaide to kickstart the season.

He said the group were able to back themselves in and get over the line against a fast-finishing Geelong outfit.

“We’ve practiced those scenarios a lot during pre-season and we had a close game in round one against Adelaide, so I backed us in,” Brayshaw said.

“We try and get a plus one around the back, try and be really strong in the contest and keep it inside and go long and wide if we can.

“We had almost a repeat, spilt it out wide and then another repeat and the siren went. We stuck to our guns.”

Brayshaw said the win highlighted an impressive resilience amongst the group in the absence of injured trio Sean Darcy (concussion), Matt Taberner (hamstring) and Nat Fyfe (back).

Lloyd Meek returned to the side for his fourth game of the season in Darcy’s absence and led the hitouts with a game-high 28.

“It’s a huge win, you mention those names and it’s exciting to have them coming back soon,” Brayshaw said.

“We’re six and one now, so we’re in a really good position.

“I’m just super excited for the group.”
