David Mundy and Jye Amiss combine for 377 games of AFL experience and they also combined to give Fremantle a sniff as Amiss slotted a crucial goal after the half time siren during their elimination final win against the Western Bulldogs on Saturday.

Amiss’ first of two goals for the night came following a poster from close range earlier in the quarter – robbing Freo of a boost they desperately needed while trailing by 41 points and still looking for their opening major of the night.

Ahead of the set shot, Mundy gave Amiss some passing advice with the 37-year-old being Freo’s resident after the siren expert, most recently kicking a goal after the three quarter time siren against GWS in round 23.

Speaking on the Final Siren Podcast with Duck and Oz, Mundy said it was important to instil Amiss with some belief.

“He missed that one not too long before, and up until that point, he hadn’t had much of a sniff as the ball had been living in the Bulldogs’ forward half,” Mundy said.

“I just ran over to him and told him to take his time and back himself in.

“Something we speak about a lot is playing the game to win and really believing in ourselves and taking it on.

“Jye’s got a beautiful kicking action and a routine that he's honed to a pretty fine degree, so I had a lot of confidence when he took the mark.

“I wouldn’t say he’s played in front of 58,000 too many times…so those jittery moments can be forgiven, I think.”

With his 375th game, Mundy moved to equal ninth in the all time games played in the AFL/VFL alongside Craig Bradley.

But he downplayed the importance of experience that had been used to write Fremantle off this finals series.

“A lot of the footy experts for the past fortnight have been talking about this being a great experience for us, but expecting us to bow out pretty quickly,” Mundy said.

“The internal belief of this group is certainly not thinking that way.

“We have the utmost confidence in our physical capabilities and our teamwork and our connection that we can really drive this Club and team forward this year.

“That’s our absolute focus and playing in a finals environment can be a nice little experience for a lot of guys who haven’t had it before.

“Regardless of experience or games played, the 23 that go out and represent Fremantle have been getting it done all year and we can hang our hat on that.”

Fremantle will play Collingwood in a semi-final on Saturday 10 September, 7.25pm EST at the MCG. The Club will send members their unique codes via email on Sunday 4 September to purchase finals tickets within the member priority period, which will be Monday 5 September between 10am-2pm.
