Fremantle has finalised its 22 for Sunday’s game against Port Adelaide at Patersons Stadium, with Aaron Sandilands confirmed as a starter for the crucial contest.

The 211cm star will lead the ruck after Jonathon Griffin was omitted.

That was the only change from the 22 that defeated Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium last weekend.

Alex Silvagni, Jay van Berlo and Griffin will be the emergencies for the game.

Port’s ruck brigade has been comprehensively beaten in the past few weeks minus young talls Matthew Lobbe and Jarrad Redden.

Former Hawthorn player Brent Renouf has battled manfully, but the Power has lost the hitout count by a combined 102-49 in the past fortnight.

The job will only get tougher against the AFL’s best ruckman on Sunday.

But Freo senior coach Ross Lyon said his midfielders had to work together to capitalise on Sandilands’ work at the stoppages.

“It’s not a complicated process,” Lyon said.

“We have to get good body contact on our opposition, protect the space and then move to the space where we are hitting the ball.”

Despite a 1-5 record, Port hasn’t been very far away this year, going down in hard-fought contests to current top eight sides Essendon, Sydney, Collingwood and Adelaide.

Lyon said his team had to be switched on for the Power’s challenge on Sunday.

“They’ve been under some pressure but they’re a really capable team,” he said.

“But we always start in our own backyard and ensure that we concentrate in the preparation meetings and go out and physically prepare in a manner that will allow us to be at our best on game day.

“We feel we’ve done that, so from here on it’s a mind game, because we’re physically ready.”
