Jye Amiss is one of the standout players from what is an increasingly deep list of young talent at Fremantle, according to assistant coach Matthew Boyd.

The 196cm key forward has played only three games in his AFL career to date, including two finals, but Boyd has seen enough to get excited about the 19-year-old’s potential.

“He's one of the players I get most excited about on our list to be honest with what he's capable of doing,” Boyd told SEN WA.

“I don't want to put too much pressure on the young man, but he certainly has a lot of really strong attributes in terms of his forward craft.”

While Amiss’ accuracy in front of goal was the standout attribute when he was drafted to Fremantle at no.8 in the 2021 NAB AFL Draft, Boyd has been most impressed by his intelligence.

“He's one of the smartest young forwards I’ve seen for a fair while in terms of his ability to set up his opponent and get into the right spots and work the right sort of areas,” Boyd said.

“He uses his body even though he's only a slight build at the moment.

“He's got a frame that he can grow into but his ability to use his body and his craft is quite exceptional for a young man.”

Amiss was instrumental in Fremantle’s famous comeback against the Western Bulldogs in their elimination final, including his second goal to level the scores after Fremantle trailed by 41 points.

“When you think about it, what he did in in the (elimination final) against the Dogs, he missed that first shot, but his composure to be able to go back and for us and put himself in the right areas was impressive.”
