Fremantle are set to leave a list spot open and not sign a player in the Supplemental Selection Period ahead of the AFL’s 15 February deadline.
The Club gave forwards Liam Serong and Sam Stubbs the opportunity to train with the group over the pre-season, with the pair under consideration for the final rookie spot available on the list.
By not taking a player in the SSP, Fremantle would have the option to fill the rookie list spot in the mid-season draft, as they did in 2022 when drafting Sebit Kuek from East Perth.
Executive General Manager of Football Peter Bell thanked both Serong and Stubbs for their contributions throughout the summer.
“After careful consideration, at this stage it is our intention to keep a list spot vacant,” Bell said.
“By doing so, we will have greater flexibility to address whatever our list needs will be at the halfway point of the season, where Liam and Sam will once again come under consideration.
“They both acquitted themselves extremely well at training, and we were particularly impressed with their professionalism and how quickly they embedded themselves within the program.
“I hope they also feel they benefitted from the experience, and I’m sure they will hit the ground running when Liam returns to Victoria and Sam to the Perth Demons to continue their pre-season preparations.”
Fremantle’s playing list is now finalised heading into round one, taking on St Kilda on 19 March at Marvel Stadium.
