Both defender Hayden Young and Senior Coach Justin Longmuir feel Fremantle will have their hands full against Sydney on Saturday at the SCG, and they are especially wary of their star forward Tom Papley.

The livewire forward has kicked a goal in every game this season and starred against Richmond in Gather Round kicking 6.2 at Adelaide Oval.

Papley has kicked three goals from his past three appearances, but Longmuir disagreed with any suggestion he wasn’t playing at his best while bringing his teammates into the game.

“He still looks dangerous to me, he’s still playing with a great intensity, and he gives them great energy,” Longmuir said.

“We need to put a bit of time into him, it’s not long ago he kicked six. We’ll respect him.”

Longmuir said Fremantle would prepare for Papley’s ability to go into the midfield and work his way forward.

“He does it as good as anyone,” Longmuir said.

“We just need to make sure we get those handovers right and make sure we hand the mid over back to the mid and pick up him coming forward.

“We’ll have something in place to do that.”

Young said he would be ready for the energy Papley would bring to the game, saying the defenders always had each other’s backs.

“I try to (stay calm), usually I just send Lukey Ryan or Jordan Clark over to them to sort them out,” Young said.

“He brings a lot of energy, if he gets going he sparks their offence and he’s a bit of a catalyst for them.

“We have to make sure we nullify him and we feel like if we work together as a back six we can get anything done.”
