Yarran has been in blistering form but sustained what the Blues coach described as a “hurt ligament in his toe” in last Saturday’s loss to Essendon at the MCG.
“He ran today so we'll have to see how he pulls up,” Ratten said.
The Carlton coach said midfielder Ed Curnow and defender Jeremy Laidler, along with Yarran, were 50/50 chances of lining up in the Len Hall Game.
Ratten said hard-nut Dennis Armfield would return, while athletic forward Andrew Walker would also come in for his first game of the season.
He said he expected his team to be “pretty hungry” this week against Freo, who he said were in good form.
"Freo has a very dangerous forward line. Defensively, they're a fantastic team," he said.
Ratten added that Carlton will go into the match expecting star Freo ruckman Aaron Sandilands to play.
