Sandilands, who has played one shortened 40-minute match this pre-season, was rested for Fremantle's trip to Adelaide last Saturday along with key midfielder David Mundy.
Stephen Hill, Hayden Ballantyne, Luke McPharlin and Adam McPhee also missed the 74-point loss, while captain Matthew Pavlich spent the first half on the bench.
Sandilands said he was expecting to play this week before preparing for a full match in the final week of pre-season fixtures.
"I think I'll have a run around down in Bunbury, it'll be great to go down there and play a game of footy in the Bunbury region," the three-time All-Australian said from the launch of Fremantle's Starlight Purple Haze fundraiser.
"I definitely want to play the last one and have a big hit-out before round one, and have a bit of a run this weekend to start to get a bit of match fitness."
A young Fremantle side was outclassed by Adelaide last Saturday, particularly in the midfield, but Sandilands said the side's engine room would be reinforced ahead of a round one clash with the Brisbane Lions.
"We had a very young midfield crew going through there on the weekend, and it's just a good chance for all our younger players to see what it's like to play in the midfield [and see what they need to do to get] their games to the elite level," he said.
"We've said all pre-season it's all about preparing for round one. I think there' would be a bit of work going into the next couple of weeks in the midfield and the chemistry will be there when the senior players come back."
Sandilands said he had spent the past month of pre-season training and working on his contested marking and completing a large volume of ruck work.
The 28-year-old also praised coach Mark Harvey's contribution to football following confirmation the three-time premiership Bomber will be awarded AFL life membership later this month.
"It's huge recognition for Harves, being involved in over 300 games is a great effort," Sandilands said. "He's brought so much to the footy club and it's great that he's getting rewarded.
"He's brought a lot of leadership and determination and he leaves no stone unturned in the way he goes about preparing for a game.
"As a coach I think he's definitely got the most out of my ability and I think a lot of players would be in the same boat."
Harvey, who has coached Fremantle in 75 games, played 206 games for Essendon between 1984 and 1997 (games counted in obtaining life membership include home and away, pre-season and state games).
