Fremantle have again dominated the AFL Players’ 22under22 selections with Caleb Serong, Jye Amiss, Hayden Young and Luke Jackson named in the team.

It is the second consecutive year Fremantle have led all teams in the AFL with four selections after Serong, Young, Andrew Brayshaw and Jordan Clark were named in the 2022 team.

Clark was the only Fremantle player to miss out on selection in 2023 after he was named in the extended squad.

Jackson and Serong were among the top players in the voting, with Jackson fourth (included in 83 per cent of teams) and Serong seventh (included in 77 per cent of teams).

Named in the midfield, this is Serong’s second time in the 22under22.

He currently leads all players in the AFL for disposals and ranks fifth for contested possessions and fifth for clearances.

Named in the ruck, this is Jackson’s third time in the 22under22 and his first as a Fremantle player after joining the Club from Melbourne.

With 58 coaches votes this year, Jackson is the highest-placed ruckman in the league ahead of St Kilda’s Rowan Marshall on 45.

Named at half back, this is Young’s second time in the 22under22.

Young has averaged 22.4 disposals this year and has recently made the transition to the midfield where he ran with the likes of Patrick Dangerfield and Lachie Neale.

Amiss has been named at full forward in his first 22under22 appearance.

The 20-year-old has kicked 38 goals so far this season while frequently attracting the opposition’s no.1 key defender.

The key forward said the performances of Freo’s young players meant the Club should bounce back from a disappointing season.

“It’s really exciting and I can’t wait for the next couple of years,” Amiss said.

“I worked really closely with ‘Dogga’ (Jackson) when he was down in the forward line and Caleb being the supplier to the forwards. They’ve had really good years and Caleb’s been really consistent.

“Youngy going into the midfield as well, he’s brought something different coming from the backline and we love him in there as well.

“He (Young) is a left footer who’s silky and a good kick inside 50. He’s got a bit of pace as well and is a bigger body in there.

“They’re all going to keep improving.”

Amiss said he had embraced the challenge of being the primary focus of opposition defenders.

“The (22under22) selection is good recognition. I’ve played on some tough oppo this year and learnt a lot at the same time,” Amiss said.

“I’m also learning off the people around me, the coaches, and other players. You learn something new every game and hopefully that means I’ll keep improving.

“We’re all looking for that team success. I’m just looking to play my part to get us there.”
