Peel Thunder have booked their first WAFL Grand Final appearance since 2017 after a dominant preliminary final performance against Subiaco at the weekend.

11 Fremantle-listed players were in action to help the Thunder to a 24-point victory over the Lions at Rushton Park in Mandurah on Sunday afternoon.

Peel will now turn their attention to a grand final clash with East Fremantle at Optus Stadium on Sunday 24 September.

Inside midfielder Will Brodie was his ultra consistent self in the prelim final clash with 24 disposals and eight tackles as he made the most of Liam Reidy's ruckwork (18 hitouts, 11 disposals).

Rebounding defender Corey Wagner (21 disposals, five tackles) and Karl Worner (21 disposals, 10 marks) continued their consistent seasons when it mattered most.

Nathan Wilson (19 disposals, six marks) worked well in a backline with Joel Hamling (15 disposals, nine marks) and Hugh Davies (11 disposals, five marks) to launch Peel’s attack.

The forward line gelled together nicely as Josh Corbett booted two majors for the day, while the lively Tom Emmett collected 12 disposals and kicked a goal.

Peel drew first blood in front of a packed house at Rushton Park through a Ben Middleton goal, while Jack Sears kicked the Thunder's second in the opening five minutes to continue a hot start for the home team.

After a contested back and forth period Sears continued his run of hot form booting his second, before Traye Bennell added Peel's fourth of the afternoon.

Subiaco steadied the ship as they put back-to-back goals on the scoreboard reducing the margin to 14.

Hamling showed his AFL level experience with two clutch defensive efforts denying Subiaco a third goal.

Corbett flexed his muscles taking a strong contested grab before slotting his first and Peels fifth of the first term to extend Peel’s lead to 21 points going into the first break.

Davies started the quarter with a highlight hanger in the middle of the ground, but after five minutes of the Thunder being able to lock the ball in their forward half they were unable to get reward on the scoreboard.

Subiaco opened the scoring for the quarter as they wrestled back some of the momentum while Wilson and Worner combined to break the Subiaco lines, only for Worner to be denied by the woodwork.

Subiaco led all stat lines in the second term but were unable to capitalise as Peel’s defence stood strong against the breeze.

The Thunder took a 13-point lead into the main break despite a goalless term into the wind, setting the stage for an entertaining second half.

It took the Thunder just 35 seconds to open the scoring in the second half as Brody Wemm kicked his first of the afternoon.

With one came two as Corbett slotted a second in quick fashion for Peel before Subiaco managed to get one back.

A downfield freekick from some undisciplined play gave Middleton all he needed to put Peel’s third through of the quarter.

Wilson’s pace off half back had been a highlight all afternoon with his continuous rebound efforts, while Hamling’s ability to read the play and leave his man to impact contests up the ground helped launch Peel into attack.

An impressive third term gave Peel a commanding 33-point lead at three-quarter-time.

Midway through the final term Emmett extended the Thunder lead to 37, almost putting the game beyond Subiaco’s reach.

The will to chase and pressure the ball carrier was a telling sign of the Thunder’s eagerness to win in front of a lively home crowd.

Worner reflected on the prelim final win post-game.

“It’s just such a great win for us, such a great win for the Peel community, and the atmosphere here today was just unreal," Worner said.

“It's something we really focused on a lot this week, trying to get that first 10 to 15 minutes going where we probably haven’t been quite at our best the past couple of weeks.

“Today I thought our mids did a great job in the contest straight away and that’s sort of where the game starts."

Worner spoke highly of Peel's defensive group.

“I have so much confidence in them, and I think Huey (Davies) and Joel (Hamling) today were exceptional," Worner said.

“Same as Wilson as well, his run off half back is just unreal and I think for us we just have really good trust in each other and what we can bring to the table."

Looking forward to the grand final, Worner is confident the team can put in a four-quarter performance against the Sharks.

“We just want to play four quarters of footy," Worner said.

“Two weeks ago against Subiaco that second half got us over the top, but you know like today we just gotta play four quarters as East Freo are a quality side”
