Fremantle executive general manager of football Joe Brierty said Fremantle will play with a lot more freedom and excitement in 2024.

Brierty told SEN WA on Tuesday morning that the young team are embracing the challenge to take a step forward this year.

“The conversation over the pre-season is that there is really no ceiling for us,” Brierty said.

“It’s a really exciting opportunity with the group we’ve got in front of us.

“Obviously, it’s a young group but from that comes an element of freedom, enthusiasm, and an opportunity to write their own story.

“We will be going into every game with a focus on winning games of footy and playing an exciting brand.”

Fremantle players are set to intensify their pre-season regimen, with match simulations increasing to 80 minutes next week.

The club will then face West Coast in an intra-club match at Mineral Resources Park on Saturday 24 February.

Brierty told hosts Tim Gossage and Scotty Cummings that Fremantle will look to utilise its midfield depth and strength around the contest in the new season.

“We feel like we are really strong inside the contest, and it gives us the best opportunity to control the ball in our front half,” Brierty said.

“The competition for spots there at the moment is something that is really exciting to watch in pre-season.

“You look at the purple and white teams going against each other at the moment, and there are probably eight or nine blokes that are fighting for a spot in that starting midfield.”

Brierty was quick to reinforce the impact that senior coach Justin Longmuir is having on the playing group in his fifth pre-season in the role.

Aligning with Longmuir's pre-season mantra of 'living in the moment', Brierty says the playing group are completely aligned for success this year.

“From my point of view JL (Justin Longmuir) has been fantastic, I love the way he’s going about it and connecting with our players,” Brierty said.

"Our focus is round one and having a strong on-field performance."
