The Club launched their 2024 season in front of more than 650 guests at Crown Perth on Thursday morning, where both Club President Chris Sutherland and CEO Simon Garlick acknowledged the “loyalty” of members and fans throughout the Club’s 30-year history.

Kath Loughnan hosted the morning that began with a Welcome to Country from Dr Richard Walley before Garlick and Sutherland set the tone for the upcoming season.

“Sometimes, it is our most challenging of times that teach us the most about the character of a group. At the back end of the 2023 AFL season, when we were out of contention for finals, we saw the DNA of a side with perseverance, resilience, and a drive to improve," Garlick said.

“This will be the decade that Freo fans will remember the most, this will be the decade where we deliver a consistent run of September football to the Freo Faithful and achieve the ultimate.

“This decade will see a group of Freo superstars write their name in the history books, who are all on the precipice of becoming household names in the AFL landscape.”

New Club President Chris Sutherland echoed Garlick’s message saying the Club is “on the brink of something truly special”.

“This year we will celebrate 30 years in the AFL, and it is an honour to lead a Club that, in its short history, has come to mean so much to so many, and is a beacon of community, resilience, and connection,” Sutherland said.

“To our members and supporters, I pledge to you a commitment to openness and even greater connection together as one tribe.

"You are the heart and soul of this Club, and your support is our greatest strength. Together, we will continue to embark on this journey, celebrating the wins, learning from our losses, and always moving forward.”

Players were presented with their 2024 season guernseys by Fremantle past legends, Aaron Sandilands, Hayden Ballantyne and Michael Johnson.

Fremantle Star Luke Ryan set the tone of optimism for 2024, telling the audience the pre-season had seen new and old faces drive each other to get better.

“The boys have had a red-hot crack this pre-season… the last intra-club was high intensity and was really good prep for round one,” Ryan said.

The morning concluded with a Q&A with senior coach Justin Longmuir who praised the “passion and energy” the playing group had brought throughout this pre-season.

“The fans get to see it on the field, but I can see it in the weights room, in the team meetings, in the trademark sessions we run,” Longmuir said.

“It’s a different sort of energy. It’s an energy of ownership. It’s an energy that they want to take control of the direction of the footy Club and that’s been the most pleasing thing.”
