Max Knobel (five league games), Ollie Murphy (eight league games) and Odin Jones (five league games) were granted special permission to be available for the WAFL finals. Knobel played most of the season for Peel’s reserves side, making 11 appearances before finishing the season the league side.
The midfield duo of Brodie and Erasmus have had standout years for the Thunder, with the pair both averaging over 28 disposals, three marks and three tackles per game this year.
Meanwhile dominant ruckman Reidy took his game to the next level in 2024, with the 204cm big man averaging 44.4 hitouts, 11 disposals and 4.4 tackles per game for the Thunder before earning his AFL debut for Fremantle in round 23.
Speaking on SportFM on Thursday morning Peel Thunder senior coach Adam Read said his transition into the coaching role that saw Peel finish second on the WAFL ladder in his first season was credit to the alignment between Peel and Fremantle.
“I think a lot of credit as well has to go to Geoff Valentine who did the job before me (senior coach of Peel last season) and the two Clubs obviously in Freo and Peel and the connection that we’ve built in the alignment,” Read said.
“It made the transition for myself coming in really, really smooth and then obviously the staff and players who have supported me along the way.”
Speaking on the Thunder’s upcoming finals campaign, Read said the availability of the playing group made for a strong team ahead of their first clash on Saturday.
“It’s every coaches dream but nightmare at the same time when you’ve got great availability,” Read said.
“It does make selection really tough, but it’s that double edged sword where it’s a really good thing because you are going to have a pretty strong side out on the field.
“We’ve got match committee today so we will sit down and figure but where the team sits, but it’s definitely a good problem to have.
“(I’m expecting) a tense battle, like you said in finals everything kind of goes up a notch or two, the old cliché that the game is won and lost in the trenches.
“You look at the Swans they have a really good midfield…I’m expecting a pretty fierce battle."
The Qualifying Final against Swans Districts is a double chance for both teams, with the winner progressing to take on minor premiers East Perth in a Semi Final clash on Saturday 7 September for a spot in the Grand Final.
The loser will take on the winner of the Elimination Final against East Fremantle and Claremont on Sunday 8 September.
