Eagerly awaiting her name to be called in the 2024 Telstra AFLW Draft, Holly Egan was surrounded by her family and friends in a moment that she would never forget.
Egan spoke to the Club after Draft night and described the moment she found out she was selected by Fremantle.
“I’m feeling so grateful. I’m just in shock still, I think it’s kind of all (still) sinking in,” Egan said.
“My whole family and heaps of friends were there and (I had) so much support, it was just so cool.
“It was just so nerve-wracking, and it was starting to get into the 30s so I was just like ‘wow, am I going to be here all night or am I going to get my name called out,’ but as soon as I heard my name, it was just a relief and I was just so grateful.
“After finding out I was so emotional and so happy.”

The draftee follows in older sister Grace’s footsteps, who has spent the past three seasons on Richmond’s list, and the three before at Carlton.
“Grace obviously was the first girl in the family to start playing footy,” Egan said.
Egan touched on the strong impact Grace has had on her football progression, praising her for the motivation she had to be drafted.
“She’s had a huge impact on my football journey,” Egan said.
“She’s grown as a person and as a footballer herself, so I think the knowledge she’s (gained) over the years, I’ve grasped I suppose.
“Anything she can tell me or give me, I take it on board.
“She’s helped me so much and I think that’s what got me over the line this year.
“My drive to want to be drafted, I think that’s come from her.”
Egan joins fellow draftees Georgie Brisbane and Evie Parker, who will make the move from Victoria to Western Australia in the coming weeks.
