Fremantle Executive General Manager of Football Joe Brierty has provided an injury update on Nat Fyfe, Hayden Young and Sean Darcy.
Dual Brownlow medallist Fyfe made his return to main training last week following minor knee surgery in early January.
Speaking to Mark Duffield on SEN WA, Brierty said Fyfe is on track to be available for Round 1.
“He’s (Fyfe) obviously coming off a low base at the moment and he still has to continue to build,” Brierty said.
“He’s gone into the main training group (on Wednesday) and the plan is for him to complete full training on Saturday and main training next week.
“We’ll continue to have that dialogue with Nat and see how he progresses over the next week.
“He’ll be available for selection, and whether that’s playing at Peel or whether there’s a role for him at AFL level, we’ll work through that.”
Young has already been ruled out of the Club’s Round 1 meeting with Geelong at GMHBA Stadium after re-straining his hamstring, with Brierty yet to confirm an exact return date for the 23-year-old.
“It’s a complex one where the location of the strain is … it’s an area that’s considered high-risk within the hamstring, though it’s still a very low-grade injury. So, the build-up is really important,” Brierty said.
“Unfortunately, he had a minor reoccurrence a couple of weeks back that set him back a few weeks.

“Probably the next fortnight will tell us when he’s going to be available, he’s been ruled out of Round 1, but we expect to see him in the early rounds of the season.”
Darcy’s timeline for a return from surgery to clear an infection in his ankle remains in the Round 3 to 5 timeframe.
Similar to Fyfe, the Club is yet to determine if the ruckman will return via the WAFL or AFL.
“He’s (Darcy) transitioning back into his running load now,” Brierty said.
“He’s been able to come out of that surgery and is probably into about his fourth running session.
“He’s running on the field today, actually.
"At this point in time, we’ve kind of earmarked him for anywhere from Round 3 to 5.
“Whether that’s being available for the AFL from the start or building in from the WAFL level, that’s something we’ll continue to work through with Sean.
“Pleasingly, he’s been able to continue his knee loading and the work he’s developed from his trip overseas, and he’s pain-free in that knee, which is the most important thing, and has been able to build his strength.”
Fremantle's 2025 season opener is against Geelong on Saturday 15 March.
