Walyalup High Performance Manager Phil Merriman has said ruckman Sean Darcy’s sore knee will be assessed closer to Saturday’s Sir Doug Nicholls Round clash against GWS.
“We decided to take a no-risk approach in subbing him (Darcy) out of the game (against Collingwood),” Merriman said.
“We’re going slow early this week and he will be a test to play on Thursday.”
Speaking at his Tuesday morning media conference, Senior Coach Justin Longmuir ruled midfielder Nathan O’Driscoll out of contention following the 22-year-old's comeback with Peel Thunder in the WAFL on Saturday.
“He (O’Driscoll) played really well on the weekend and we’d love to have him in selection, but that ankle has just flared up so he’s going to miss this week unfortunately,” Longmuir said.
Veteran Nat Fyfe continues to progress in his hamstring rehabilitation, with his return to football approaching after injuring his hamstring in Round 2 of the WAFL.
“He’s (Fyfe) progressed really well. He’s been really detailed and specific with his training so far and that has paid dividends,” Merriman said.
“He’s about two to three weeks away, but we will see how he progresses through the entry into the football program.”
As confirmed by the Club on Monday, mid-forward Quinton Narkle will be out for up to two months following a knee injury sustained with Peel Thunder.
“He’s got what is called a compression fracture of his knee,” Merriman said.
“It’s an un-displaced fracture and these usually take around six to eight weeks to heal.”
Meanwhile, Jaeger O’Meara, Sam Sturt and Michael Walters are all about a month away from returning to play.
“They are all going really well and as planned,” Merriman said.
“Sturty (Sam Sturt) will re-join the football program this week.”
“Jaeger (O’Meara) has started on the AlterG, Sonny (Michael Walters) is progressing really well and is getting some great training loads in.
“He (Walters) will be about a week or two away from the football program.”
