Walyalup defender Brennan Cox has said that watching some of the team’s exciting forward talent from the other end of the ground is one of his favourite parts of the game.

Isaiah Dudley, Murphy Reid, and Shai Bolton combined for seven goals in Walyalup’s 49-point win on Saturday night, with Cox joking that he wishes he had the X-factor goal sense that some of the forwards possess.

“It’s really nice to watch all of them (Isaiah Dudley, Murphy Reid, Shai Bolton) down the other end,” Cox said post-match on 6PR.

“They all have a bit of X-factor, and what they’re doing without the ball as well - the pressure and the way they’re able to defend - has been excellent.

"What they do with the footy, I wish I could do that.”

Cox said that most pleasingly, the back-to-back wins have provided a stepping stone heading into the Club’s final match against Gold Coast in Round 12 before the bye.

“It’s good to get a couple in a row,” Cox said.

“We’ve had a bit of inconsistency and ups and downs, so to come back home and perform like that after a good win against GWS, it’s good to finally build on a couple of wins in a row.”

Cox also highlighted the team’s stronger defensive efforts in recent weeks, particularly in Saturday’s wet conditions.

“We were able to get some really strong positioning and intercept the ball. I think we took 10 intercept marks in the third quarter or something... With pressure and strong positioning, we can intercept and attack off that,” Cox said.

“It’s better playing on the key forwards because they can’t juke as much, but it’s a bit nerve-racking when it’s a ground ball and you’ve got Willie Rioli coming at you in the wet.

“I thought we were pretty good most of the day at getting back and supporting.

"A few times we let it get over the back and that’s where they were able to swoop and get a few goals, but I think for most of the day we were pretty good at keeping it coming to the front, getting to the contest, and outnumbering.”
