Hear from Co-Vice Captain Caleb Serong, leadership member Hayden Young, and Executive General Manager of Football Joe Brierty as they speak on radio following the Club’s Round 19 win over the Pies.
Caleb Serong
Speaking on Triple M Breakfast, midfielder Caleb Serong revealed his extensive and methodical recovery techniques that he undertakes following matches.
“I was telling Xav (Xavier Ellis) before that I was pretty sore after the weekend,” Serong said.
“We got back at about 1am from Melbourne on Monday morning.
"So, Monday was heavily based around recovery, with a short week this week being a six-day break.
"There are a few things I’ve found that have really worked for me.
"Red light therapy - it looks like a solarium, but it’s red light therapy, which is supposed to really help with sleep quality and recovery. I’ve found that’s been of benefit.
"I’ve also got a little halo that goes around your neck, which is a Vagus Nerve stimulator.
"Your Vagus Nerve essentially gets you into your parasympathetic state, which is your rest-and-digest relaxation mode.
"It’s essentially like a static kind of thing that almost electrocutes you a little bit (to stimulate the nerve), but it doesn’t hurt.”
Hayden Young
Hayden Young joined 96FM with Clairsy, Lisa and Barra to talk about his comeback game and the nerves he was feeling on the bench before being subbed on.
“I’ve played in a few close games and haven’t been on that end of it - sort of fallen short a few times - so it was really nice to win,” Young said.
“Collingwood are a great fourth-quarter team, and we were able to show some maturity and find a way to win when they came early and kicked a few goals.
"I would have loved to have come on earlier because I was very nervous sitting on the bench.
"You just want to get into the game and get involved.
"I was happy that when I did come on, I was able to have fresh legs and have an impact.”

Joe Brierty
Fremantle Executive General Manager of Football Joe Brierty joined Mark Duffield on SEN WA to talk about the big win over the Pies, recap several outcomes from the game, and provide an injury update on midfielder Matthew Johnson, who escaped serious injury.
“He needs to go out and buy a lotto ticket, Duff,” Brierty said.
“Looking back over the vision, we were pretty worried it was a significant injury.
"Thankfully, there is no fracture in the lower part of the shin - ultimately just some torn ligaments around the ankle.
"It’s not a Syndesmosis injury, so really, from here, there is no surgical intervention required, and it’s probably that three-to-four-week period that will allow the injury to stabilise. Then we’ll get him back into his footy.”
