Fremantle AFLW recruit Holly Egan will miss the upcoming 2025 NAB AFLW Season after scans revealed the 19-year-old sustained an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in her left knee.
The injury occurred during Fremantle’s practice match against West Coast on Saturday morning at Victor George Kailis Oval in Cockburn.
Fremantle Head of AFLW Claire Heffernan says the Club and teammates will throw their arms around the draftee as she begins her rehabilitation.
“Football can be a tough sport at times, especially with Holly being a draftee. She has already made a significant impact on the group, not only with her football ability but also the connections she has made with her teammates and staff since arriving here,” Herrfernan said.
“We are naturally all devastated for Holly and will do everything we can to support her during her recovery from this injury, which she will attack with the same tenacity and determination she has shown since joining the team.”
Fremantle selected Egan with pick 34 in the 2024 Telstra AFLW Draft. The running defender had impressed with her athleticism and speed off half-back during the pre-season intraclub and match simulations.
A timeline for Egan’s return to football will be established following surgery.
