Fremantle forward Pat Voss says the forwards group is focused on running out a full 120 minutes of football, prioritising team roles over individual accolades.

Fremantle’s forwards were well held in the first half of Sunday’s win over Carlton, with limited opportunities, before kicking 11.3 after halftime to the Blues’ 2.6.

Most impressively, the side recorded 10 straight goals from set shots without a miss.

Speaking post-match on the Final Siren Podcast, Voss said the team regrouped after halftime.

“From a forward’s point of view, it was just about getting the contest done,” Voss said.

“We weren’t getting as many looks as we would have liked, and the midfield dealt with that after halftime. But in the first half, we felt like when we did get our opportunities, we were pretty frustrated and didn’t get it right, so we were frustrated with ourselves.

“We regrouped at halftime, spoke about the contest and being ready for it, reacting quicker, because they (Carlton) probably reacted quicker than us in the first half.”

Freo’s three tall pillars up forward — Jye Amiss, Josh Treacy, and Voss — finished the game with three goals apiece, with six of those coming in the second half for the trio.

Voss believes the team’s fitness is what is giving the forwards their reward, particularly late in games.

“We feel like we’re a pretty fit team and we run teams off their legs, and you do get your looks (eventually),” Voss said.

“We speak about 120 minutes, and that’s what it takes (to win).

“It gives you good faith (as a team), there have been a lot of games this year where it’s three-quarter time and you’ve had three or four touches and maybe kicked one, but you end up getting your lick of the ice cream if you value the right things, run the right patterns, and that sort of thing.

“Some days it won’t work out for you, some days you’re not going to get the looks, but more often than not, it will.”

The Club’s win snaps a three-game losing streak to Carlton and, more importantly, places the side fifth on the AFL ladder at the end of Round 21, with three games remaining in the home-and-away season.
