Fremantle High Performance Manager Phil Merriman’s says midfielder Hayden Young’s groin strain is at the lower end of the spectrum, but a confirmed timeline for his return is yet to be established.
Young was subbed out of the game at quarter time against Carlton on Sunday.
“It’s at the lower end of strains which is good news (for Young),” Merriman said.
“We are going to progress him as his function allows us to.
“Right now, we don’t have a timeframe (for his return) but we are hoping to see him back before the end of the home and away season.”
Skipper Alex Pearce completed a football circuit session at the weekend, with Merriman confirming his availability for Port Adelaide would be determined after main training.
“Pearce completed all that we wanted him to do, so he will be a test to play this week as long as he gets through main training,” Merriman said.
Midfielder Corey Wagner, who has missed Round 20 and 21 wins with a minor heel injury is also a chance to return for the trip to Adelaide.
“He’s tracking well. He’s just been dealing with a little bit of lingering soreness,” Merriman said.
“It looks to be resolved now so again - same as Alex - we will be looking for him to complete main training and be available for selection.”
Matthew Johnson’s ankle injury continues to progress well, with Merriman saying the 22-year-old could return within the next fortnight with all things tracking as planned.
“He’s going really well,” Merriman said.
“He’s got his swelling down now and his range of motion has come back.
“He’s progressed to on field (running) and will be completing a football session this Saturday.
“We will see where we get to in regards to his availability next week.”
