Walyalup has confirmed its extended squad of 24 to take on the Sydney Swans in Round 4 of the NAB AFLW Season this Sunday 7 September, headlined by an AFLW debutant in Holly Ifould.

There are three other potential returns to the side in Ash Brazill, Gabby Biedenweg-Webster and Georgie Brisbane, who have all been named on the extended bench.

Jo Cregg, Indi West, Amy Mulholland, Phil Seth and Dana East round out the eight on the extended bench.

Hailing from South Australia, Ifould was drafted in the 2023 AFLW Draft as the Club’s sole selection for the Draft at pick 49, and stood out with her work rate and strong aerial ability.

Ifould has been named at half back alongside Indi Strom, Jess Low, Gabby O’Sullivan and Laura Pugh.

Head of AFLW Claire Heffernan said she is thrilled to see Ifould get her opportunity.

“We’re so pleased for Holly. She’s worked incredibly hard over these last two years and has been really consistent in her approach,” Heffernan said.

“It’s always exciting to reward players who have put in the work, and we’re confident Holly will embrace her debut.”

Speaking to media on Thursday morning, Senior Coach Lisa Webb identified the areas she wants her side to improve on ahead of Sunday.

“The girls have been fantastic with wanting to improve, finding out what went wrong, and clearly, we have some elements we need to improve on, but we’re focused on Sydney, and we look forward to another great challenge,” Webb said.

“Around our contest and team defence – it’s been something that they’ve been able to expose. It’s really clear what we need to improve on.

Webb said the side will relish the opportunity to get away together and use it as another opportunity to build on the strong connection the side already has.

“We love getting on the road. It’s a great environment and we thrive in that,” Webb said.

The game will be broadcast live on 7mate and Fox Sports, and streamed live on Kayo, Binge and 7plus from 11am WST.

Walyalup's final team will be announced at 3pm WST on Friday at fremantlefc.com.au.
