Following the news of the passing of WA football legend Dennis Cometti, the Fremantle Football Club extends its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the Australian broadcast icon.

Cometti was a member of the WA Football Hall of Fame, the Australian Football Hall of Fame, Sport Australia Hall of Fame, Melbourne Cricket Club and Australian Football Media Association Halls of Fame.

Before Cometti retired in 2021, the media centre at Optus Stadium was named the Dennis Cometti Media Centre in his honour, recognising the legendary WA commentator’s remarkable 51-year career.

“On behalf of our players, staff and the broader Fremantle Football Club, we extend our deepest condolences to Dennis’ family and friends,” CEO Simon Garlick said.

“His iconic voice was the soundtrack of so many of our winters and his skill and dedication to his craft will never be forgotten.

“With countless memorable one-liners and exceptional timing and accuracy in his calls, Dennis was a fan favourite during his commentary days and will be remembered with great fondness.

“He is a true WA legend of the game.”

Dennis Cometti was 76.
