Fremantle midfielder Andrew Brayshaw said that despite the disappointing loss to Geelong in Round 1 last year, the team is motivated and prepared for the challenge this Saturday when they travel to the Cattery once again.

Speaking at his Monday afternoon media conference, Brayshaw said the team is expecting Geelong to come out looking to redeem their Opening Round loss to the Gold Coast Suns.

“The two games prior to last year's game, we've gone over there and put up really good efforts (including a three-point and seven-point win),” Brayshaw said.

“So, we're expecting Geelong’s best this weekend, and we're expecting to bring our best and really give it to them.

“I know they (Geelong) were beaten convincingly on the weekend, but we’re expecting them to be fit, firing and hungry to play their best footy.”

Speaking on the challenges faced when heading to GMHBA Stadium, Brayshaw explained that the field dimensions make teams play slightly differently, but his Fremantle side will focus on playing to their strengths.

“It has a little bit of a skinnier boundary, so it feels like you have to guard the corridor a lot more,” Brayshaw said.

“There are little nuances in that, but we're expecting to go out there and try to put on a really good performance.

“Our one wood is our contest and our team defence. I think our ball movement and scoring flow on from that.”
Speaking on bis own preseason, Brayshaw said the build-up to the opening game of the season is his favourite time of the year.

“I’m feeling energised, strong and fit and really excited for Round 1,” Brayshaw said.

“Everyone's in really good nick, you feel really healthy and have trained so hard, and you finally get to show all the hard work to our fans and to the world.

“That starts this weekend. it's very exciting time.”

Fremantle and Geelong will begin at 1.15pm WST on Saturday 14 March.
