Fremantle senior coach says the 14-point win over Carlton in the Club’s Len Hall Tribute Game once again showed the evolution of his side in 2026, with him believing there was still another level his team can reach.

Speaking at his post-match media conference, Longmuir said the Blues’ record doesn’t fully reflect how competitive they have been in the first seven rounds.

“Games of footy are hard to win, and I think I said to the players,” Longmuir said.

“I don't think Carlton's record, so to speak, reflects the way they've been playing footy. I think they've been playing some really good footy.

“Collingwood came out and won by 90 points, and Carlton had a chance to draw the game last week. So yeah, games of footy are hard to win.

“All year we've been able to win in different ways.

“Different parts of our game, in different games, have held up and flourished.

“Some games we've won on front-half scoring. Sometimes we've had to do it from our back half, and our centre bounce and stoppage work was good at times.

“I feel like we've got a few strings to our bow.”

One of those areas the side will continue to build on is maximising return from clearance work.

Longmuir said he has felt his side has lacked in capitalising on clearances for some time and it will be an area they look to improve going forward.

“We need to work on that. That’s been an issue for a little bit now,” Longmuir said.

“But having said that, I think our clearance work has just been a little bit off.

“Yeah, we obviously won the first 12 clearances, so that was a step forward.

“We just need to make sure we maximise it.

“You can maximise it in different ways. You can go straight to a score, which we want to do.

“Clearances usually get the game played in your front half, and then if the opposition win it back, you try and turn the ball over as close as you can to your goals.

“So the field position stuff is a bonus. We want to make sure we turn some of those into scores. Absolutely.”

Fremantle will now travel to Melbourne to take on the Western Bulldogs on Friday 1 May at Marvel Stadium.
