Key defender Peter Faulks put in another strong defensive performance for Peel Thunder on the weekend, but it’s the offensive development of his game that’s really pleasing Fremantle says senior development coach Simon Lloyd.

Faulks was Freo’s WAFL Player of the Round after his 21 disposal, eight-mark effort in the Thunder’s upset win over Subiaco.

Lloyd said Faulks’ defensive positioning had been solid all season, but he was also becoming more damaging with the ball in hand.

“From an offensive point of view, Peter has really created an aspect of his game where he is trying to run hard on the rebound, characterised by some strong, long-running efforts,” he said.

“With his use, he has shown good penetration and accuracy, which is what we want to see from him.”

Lloyd shared his notes from all Fremantle defenders who played WAFL or Foxtel Cup on the weekend.

Peter Faulks (PT) 21 disposals (15 kicks, 6 handballs) 8 marks

Peter played in defence. He has had a number of solid performances at WAFL level over a period of time, and has been impressive both defensively and offensively. The way he is positioning at the moment is causing at lot of uncertainty for opposition ball carriers.

Jack Anthony
(S) 13 disposals (7 kicks, 6 handballs) 5 marks

Jack played both as a defender on Hancock and forward on Peter Faulks, where he had a tough day. Jack continued to battle and to Subiaco’s credit, they moved him into the ruck where he had a positive impact with his second and third efforts, his tackle and his run. In the end, when things weren’t going quite well for him, he continued to work and ended up getting something out of the game.

Jordan Wilson-King (SF) 17 disposals (10 Kicks, 7 handballs) 1 goal

Jordan started as a half-back, but played the entire second half on the wing. He really attacked the game and was aggressive at the contest. He looked really dangerous when South Fremantle won the football. He kicked a good goal which came out of some hard lateral run from a stoppage. Jordan is working on his conditioning and staying involved for longer periods in the game. He is progressing well.
