Round 9 at Optus Stadium will be more than just a clash between Fremantle and Hawthorn. The Purple Hands game has become a highlight, quite literally, and in 2026 it returns with an even deeper sense of purpose, bringing together footy, community, and connection in a night designed to be felt as much as it is watched.
Around 50 dedicated volunteers will be on hand to distribute thousands of wristbands to the Freo family pregame, setting the stage for a stadium-wide lightshow at the three-quarter time break.
Proudly supported by Programmed, the activation will see Optus Stadium come alive in purple, creating a shared moment for everyone in attendance in a powerful visual display.
The night’s program extends well beyond the lightshow. At half time, WA All Abilities will take centre stage, showcasing the talent, passion, and inclusivity that sit at the heart of the Purple Hands Foundation.
Before the game commences, Freo players will warm up in specially designed tees from the Kimberly 9s, continuing a strong connection to programs that empower young people through creativity and culture.
Importantly, the impact of the night will continue long after the final siren, with a portion of every ticket sold contributing directly to the Purple Hands Foundation and its programs.
Central to bringing this vision to life is Programmed, whose partnership with the Purple Hands Foundation has grown over many years. Their support has extended far beyond game day, from contributing equipment and on-the-ground assistance for the Kimberley 9s, to helping deliver meaningful experiences for the many young participants.
For last year’s Kimberly 9’s event 2025, Programmed supported the involvement of hip hop artist Flewnt, who ran workshops and performed for students, while more recently they helped bring fellow hip hop artists Optamus to the Purple Hands Foundation’s Intercept Freo Cares Day.
Their backing of the Round 9 activation continues that commitment, ensuring every fan at Optus Stadium can take part in a shared moment.
“Over the years, Programmed have become more than just a supporter of Purple Hands Foundation, they’ve been part of the journey, backing our programs and the young people behind them,” Purple Hands Foundation program coordinator Amber Vandam said.
“Their support for the game day activation is a continuation of that commitment, helping create moments that people can be part of and proud of.”
