‘Best run’ sets up Switkowski

The boys are back! The boys kicked off training with a 2km time trial. It's their first day back at the club after the Christmas break and everyone is looking fit.

Sam Switkowski feels ready to tackle the rest of the 2019 pre-season following an impressive showing in Monday’s 2km time trial at Victor George Kailis Oval.

The small forward had a personal best and showed that the hamstring issues that hampered parts of his 2018 season are no longer holding him back.

The 22-year-old played two of the final three games in 2018 with his potential on show in both appearances.

In the time trial, Switkowski placed third behind winner Stefan Giro and runner-up Andrew Brayshaw.

“It’s the best run I’ve had since I’ve been here which is really pleasing,” Switkowski said.

“It’s always good just to get a bit of feedback and see that I’m improving each time which is really good.

“It’s certainly a good sign, the body is feeling healthy and the hamstrings are feeling really good.

“I haven’t really had a full pre-season for a while so at least so far, I’m on the right track.”

Fremantle held a light training session following the run, with the group’s first main football session to come in the middle of the week.

“On Wednesday we’ll have a bigger footy session which will be good,” Switkowski said.

“Certainly over the next few months, I’m looking forward to getting into some match simulation training leading into some practice games in Feb.”
