Fremantle could see the likes of Michael Walters, Nat Fyfe and David Mundy continue to rotate through the midfield and forward line in 2019, according to The West Australian.

In an interview with The West Australian following Fremantle’s intraclub game on Friday, Walters said he expects to continue providing support through the middle as Fyfe and Mundy rotate forward.

“It is a swingman role and it gives David Mundy and Nat Fyfe the chance to play forward. We have been doing it a bit for three years,” Walters said.

Walters was one of the standouts in the middle alongside Mundy in Friday’s hitout, while young midfielders including Adam Cerra, Andrew Brayshaw and Bailey Banfield continued to show improvement ahead of their second year in the AFL.

Walters said it was crucial to see this development from Fremantle’s younger core of players.

“I am 28 and I am the fifth oldest at the club,” Walters said

“We need to fast-track our young players as quick as we can. They need to see what AFL footy is about and to play against players like Scott Pendlebury and Dustin Martin.”

Walters said he’s pleased with how Fremantle’s new-look forward line is shaping up, spearheaded by tall forwards Jesse Hogan, Rory Lobb and Matt Taberner.

“We are bonding well with the team and the new players have brought in something different as well, Reece Conca from Richmond, Rory from GWS,” Walters said.

“Our chemistry is getting better up forward. We have targets to go to and the ball movement is better in terms of predictability, us knowing where the ball should go.”
