Fremantle captain Nat Fyfe was pleased with the efforts of ruckman Rory Lobb in Freo’s 25-point loss to Richmond at Optus Stadium on Sunday.

Lobb took advantage of Richmond losing ruckman Toby Nankervis to injury to help give Freo first use with 45 hitouts.

His contribution helped Freo lead the clearances (42-33) and inside 50s (55-51).

The 206cm big man also impressed with his work rate up and down the ground, with four contested marks, 11 contested possessions, five clearances and a goal.

“Rory’s an exceptional player and he’s starting to really show his aerial prowess for us,” Fyfe said.

“Richmond were slightly undermanned in the ruck and I thought Rory really dominated in that area and gave us first use.”

Fyfe said Fremantle were blessed with deep ruck stocks with Sean Darcy waiting in the wings for potential call up.

“It’s great having Rory and we’ve got Sean Darcy who is not far away (from a recall),” Fyfe said.

“If Rory needs a spell forward or needs a chop out, we’re sure Sean Darcy will be able to come in for us so it’s great to have that key ruck depth.”
