Griffin Logue said that Fremantle can take heart from their effort after a 14-point loss to Melbourne in a demanding contest.

Fremantle were reduced to two rotations for the bulk of the second half with Jesse Hogan (foot) and Stephen Hill (hamstring) on the sidelines.

Logue said that the injuries didn’t affect the result but admitted it made the day more challenging.

“It was tough and it doesn’t make it any easier when a couple of the boys go down early,” Logue said.

“We never gave up, they were good and they were better than us on the day, but we’ll look to bounce back for sure.

“That’s footy. As a team, we felt we stood up and carried on. Obviously they’re both massive losses but you have to do what you have to do and that’s just a part of footy.

“We were really happy with our effort. We never gave up and went to the end but now it’s a matter of having a quick review for Carlton at home next week and we’ll go from there.”

Bradley Hill and Nat Fyfe led Fremantle with 31 disposals each, and Logue praised what was another impressive effort from the captain.

“A leader like Fyfey is what every team needs and wants,” Logue said.

“He does that every week, it’s not the just high-flying marks and contested ball, it’s the smaller things, from folding back into D50 and going in contest after contest.

“He’s putting himself on the line just to get a fingernail in to help the team. It’s really noticeable, especially as a backman.”
