Fremantle defender Karl Worner says his performances are completely driven by a team-first attitude.
Worner was superb off half-back in the win over the Suns, gathering 23 disposals, six marks and five tackles at 91 per cent disposal efficiency, but says he is only focused on team-first football.
Speaking post-game on 6PR, Worner said he and the team are in a state of flow at the moment.
“I love being a part of this back line, love being part of the crew, and to be honest, I sort of just go out there and play my role, regardless of stats,” Worner said.
“I just want to go out there and do my job for the team.
“It's just sort of a by-product of the way the team's going at the moment, to be honest.
“We're sort of in a little bit of a flow, but it's just sort of that one-and-nil mindset for myself and others. We review, move on and just take each week as it comes.
“(Jordan) Clark, he's been so good to learn off for me personally, and I'm just looking to take my game to the next level and keep developing where I can.”
With list health at a premium and competition for spots in the AFL side hotly contested, Worner said the group was pushing each other positively every week.
One of the returning players to the AFL side was ruckman Sean Darcy, who played his first AFL game since Round 5 after suffering a concussion in the Gather Round win over Collingwood, followed by a calf strain during his recovery
“Credit to the Peel boys at the moment as well. They're really pushing for spots,” Worner said.
“There are a couple of lads down there who are really unlucky to be missing out. I think it's a testament to the way they're going about it at the moment. They're not dropping their heads; they're really pushing hard and testing us boys at the top level.
“We love Swaggy (Sean Darcy). He's had a little bit of a tough run with his injuries and has been a little bit unlucky, but I think it's a credit to the work he's put in to get himself back.
“We all love him. We love having him back, and I think that showed when he kicked that goal and the boys got around him.”
