Fremantle key defender Hugh Davies has signed a three-year contract extension, keeping him at the Club until 2029.
Selected with pick No.33 in the 2022 National Draft, 21-year-old Davies has played two AFL games after debuting in 2024.
The 196cm pillar down back has been a standout for Peel Thunder in 2026, taking his marking and intercept game to new heights, with 119 marks from 14 games in the WAFL.
His haul included 20 grabs, alongside 27 disposals in Peel’s Round 7 win over reigning premiers South Fremantle.
Fremantle Head of Player Personnel David Walls said extending Davies’ time at the Club was a great outcome for all parties.
“Hugh was out of contract at the end of this season, so to have him extend his time at the Club until 2029 is a great result,” Walls said.
“He’s still just 21 years old and he’s been working his backside off on his defensive craft.
“His one-on-one contests have improved out of sight and with the form he’s been in at WAFL level this year, he has definitely attracted interest from other Clubs.
“Hugh’s still relatively young for a key defender and our key backs, Brennan Cox and Alex Pearce, have been pretty durable and Oscar McDonald has performed really well when he’s played.
“He’s taking invaluable learnings from Pearce, Cox, Luke Ryan and Oscar every day and every session.”

Davies was previously out of contract at the end of 2026, but now becomes the 20th player at Fremantle to be contracted until at least 2028 or beyond.
