Fremantle AFLW vice-captain Gabby Newton has signed on for a further two years, extending her time at the Club until at least the end of the 2029 season.
The talented midfielder putting pen to paper just shy of her 25th birthday, reaffirming her commitment to Fremantle.
“Securing Gabby's future through to 2029 is significant for our playing group,” AFLW List Manager Darryn Fry said.
The former number one draft pick was recruited to Freo during the 2023 trade period, following five seasons with the Western Bulldogs.
“After moving away from her strong family connections to join Fremantle and to now commit her future here through to at least 2029, speaks highly about the direction of our AFLW program and football club,” Fry said.
“Gabby’s on field development since arriving at the Club has been fantastic. Gabby has embraced life in WA, and her commitment reinforces the belief that our program is building something special under Lisa Webb’s coaching.”
Newton has been used in multiple roles and last season she averaged 24.4 disposals in 12 matches to earn her first All Australian selection.
“In two seasons at Fremantle, Gabby has finished third and second in our Best & Fairest,” Fry said.
Newton was elevated to vice-captain ahead of this year’s AFLW season.
“Gabby consistently drives the standard on and off the field,” Fry said.
"She is a connector within the group, a great teammate.
“Having been voted in by her peers to vice-captain and knowing she'll be part of our program until at least the end of 2029, gives the group enormous confidence.”
